Daily Streamed Services Information

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:

Glory be to Jesus Christ!  Glory forever!

We have been live streaming and uploading youtube versions of daily services (scroll down on this page) celebrated at church or virtually through zoom.  Holy Transfiguration parish has celebrated daily services for many years, and this is in keeping with that practice. It has been quite heartening to receive photos of faithful placing i-pads in their icon corners to pray together with us;  we have also heard feedback from as far as Alaska and Florida that many are joining us for these services during such challenging times.

Please note that since these services are live-streamed and uploaded as youtube videos daily, it now takes a good deal of time for this page to load for viewing.  Consequently, older, archived services can be found here.  Below are more current services..

To see the service schedule, please click here to view weekly bulletins.  This is shared with all our faithful each week, with the schedule of services celebrated at our home so all can join us.  Links found there include access to our facebook page that you can also reference here.  Each day on the live stream and recorded version of services, Fr. Steven verbally shares the service schedule for the coming days also.  If you "like" our facebook page, you will actually receive notifications when we "go live" with services.

Please join us in prayer as we continue to celebrate the liturgical services as fully as possible from home during our continued coronavirus pandemic.

With prayers and love in Christ,

Fr. Steven

Services for the Feast of Annunciation

We will be celebrating the Annunciation Feast on March 25th, the only great feast occurring during Great Lent.  Due to this reality, the actual celebration of the feast is one of the latest liturgies in the year.  Typically we celebrate Vespers on the eve, and Liturgy on the morning of the feast.  For Annunciation we celebrate Liturgy in the evening of the day of the feast, along with the synaxis of the Archangel Gabriel.  The celebration of the feast also varies depending on where this feast falls during the week.  The Archangel Gabriel is the one who came to the Theotokos to bring her glad tidings that she will bear a son through being overshadowed by the Grace of the Holy Spirit.  Her response reflects her being the quintessential example of our human nature to aspire to:  "Let it be to me according to Your will."  May we seek this posture with respect to our present Great Lenten effort.

This year, the eve of the Feast is Wednesday, and the feast on Thursday.  We will celebrate the Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts on Wednesday evening, and a Vesperal Divine Liturgy on the evening of Thursday, March 25th.  Please click on the link for each day's service texts.

Lenten Daily Vespers, Mar. 22, 2021
Services for the First Sunday of Great Lent

On the first Sunday of Great Lent we commemoroate the restoration of the Holy Icons in the Church in 843.  The Image of Christ "not made with hands" is the first reflection of the face of Christ, sent to Abgar the Prince of Odessa, bringing healing to him.  The icons are not themselves objects of worship, as argued by the iconoclasts, against the second commandment, but instead draw us into the reality of the feast or person depicted, as windows.

We also on this day remember a more recent event.  It was on the Sunday of Orthodoxy in 1891 that word reached St. Alexis that the Pokrov (St. Mary's) Cathedral community in Minneapolis had been received from the Unia into the Russian Orthodox Church.  He had waited a year while serving the parish and working in a bakery to learn that their journey home was fruitful.

We will celebrate Great Vespers virtually on Saturday at 5:00pm, and Divine Liturgy on Sunday at 9:00am.  You can find texts here.

Please come and worship with us!

Holy Transfiguration Church Holds Parish Retreat

The Holy Transfiguration Church Community actively prepared for the Pentecost Feast on multiple levels.  These levels included the church itself through iconography underway and preparations for the feast, and the parish pastor and faithful through a very meaningful retreat!   Please see the gallery of photos to reflect this preparation.

Archpriest Theodore Jurewicz, and his son John Jurewicz, arrived at Holy Transfiguration Church on Monday, June 3rd and will be with us through most of this month.  John has become an accomplished icongrapher in working with his father.   They have been working to complete iconography in the church that has been underway now for literally decades!  It is nothing short of incredible to see their work take more definitive shape each day!

On Saturday, June 15th, Fr. Steven and parish faithful welcomed Archimandrite Sergius (Bowyer), Abbot of St. Tikhon's Monastery.  He led a retreat entitled, "Acquiring the Mind of Christ".   Fr. Sergius shared that any effort to ascend spiritual heights is accompanied by descent into spiritual struggle.  Referencing corporate worship (daily services) Fr. Sergius indicated this being half the effort of transformation, with the other half reflected in personal prayer of each of the faithful.  Of the latter, Fr. Sergius spoke of relationship with Christ as even more important than the rule of prayer, inviting retreat partipants to enter into the inner movement of their heart in calling out to God.  He quoted many fathers, including St. John Climacus in sharing that "prayer is converse and union with God".  Later in the retreat Fr. Sergius shared a sample rule of prayer that includes actions, prayer, reading, to involve all aspects of our being in prayer.

Following the retreat, those gathered celebrated the Vigil for Pentecost.  Archimandrite Sergius stayed to join in the celebration of the Litya during Vespers.  With all of these active preparations, the celebration of the Festal services was even more full!  Thanks be to God for Fr. Sergius being with us, and may this retreat day bear fruit through the Grace of the Holy Spirit!
